Party Chat Limitations
In some multiplayer gametypes you will not be able to game and have an open Party Chat in Modern Warfare 2.  In certain multiplayer gametypes/playlists you will not be able to play Modern Warfare 2 while in a Party Chat on the Xbox 360. In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare you could use the Party Chat walk-around/cheat to still give your team heads up when you were shot down (while spectating in 3rd person). Infinity Ward chose to not make this possible in Modern Warfare 2, so they're forcing you to use the game chat channel in most multiplayer gametypes/playlists. This also means you will not be able to speak with a gamer buddy that is playing another game while you play some Modern Warfare 2... By the looks of it, as shown in the image to the right, you will only be able to use party chat in the following playlists:
