No GamesCom for 402

Robert Bowling will not attend GomesCom 2009

[UPDATED] Robert Bowling, the voice of Infinity Ward, will not attend GamesCom 2009 - the European answer to the E3.

Earlier this week this week Robert posted a tweet telling us he was booking a flight and hotel for when he was attending the GamesCom 2009, though he hated it because he basically wanted to be with his family (he and his girl just had a baby). This tweet was later removed, leaving us in the dark why. Today another tweet came flying in:

Still sending #MW2 but I personally will no longer be attending GamesCon in Germany next week. Spent today training up staff to present it.

(Yes, even Robert spelled GamesCom wrong. It's a stupid name...)

Modern Warfare 2 beta rumor smashed, again

There will be no beta announcement at Games Convention in Germany. The only reason I've decided not to attend is due to the amount of work I'd like to get done here at the studio, things that would have been delayed even further if I was out of the country for a week.
Things like the frequency at which we release multiplayer videos, more screenshots for press, and planning for some upcoming events.

Thanks for the heads up Elliot Wardle

Riot Shield, two handed - no gun

[UPDATE] Yesterday we reported on the riot shield not being a perk, or at least not yet. No way to tell if it'll be an Specops only sort of thing but this is what Robert had to say about it on the Xbox.com forums:

It's really good in objective gametypes. When one players needs to plant / defuse / defend / etc. / etc. and the other player can protect him. Giving him some mobile cover while he works. It has it's advantages in TDM as well, but Objective gametypes is where I've really seen it shine.

But more importantly, he confirmed you will not be able to run around with a shield and a gun at the same time.

Riot shield guys are defenseless (except they can melee with it) because the Riot Shield requires both hands to hold, so you can't shoot when you have it out. Best used in conjunction with another player. Even then, plenty of ways to counter someone with a shield.

Thanks MW2 blog for these over 3 week old posts.
